Up All Night

Series Premiere: September 14th 10/9c

“Up All Night” is an irreverent look at modern parenthood.

Christina Applegate stars as Reagan Brinkley: loving wife, successful career woman, life of the party and, most recently, mom. Determined not to compromise her career or cool reputation to the cliches of motherhood, Reagan adjusts to life with a baby and returns to work with the support of her stay-at-home husband, Chris. As Reagan and Chris figure out their new life, self-doubt, sleep deprivation and the pressure of today’s parenting protocols rattle their confidence. What’s more, the endless needs of Reagan’s boss, ambitious but vulnerable talk-show host Ava, threaten to throw Reagan off balance.

Christina Applegate: ‘Up All Night is relatable’

Christina Applegate has described her new show Up All Night as “relatable in a lot of ways”.

The NBC comedy, which also stars Will Arnett and Maya Rudolph, focuses on a couple whose lives change when they become parents.

However, Applegate told Entertainment Weekly that “it’s not a show about people having a baby”.

“It’s about what happens when your world gets shaken up by things,” she said. “When the world that you knew so well [changes], especially with people like this, who are in their late 30s, who have lived their life selfishly for all this time [and] now have this person that’s going to dictate every move that they’re going to make.”

Applegate added that she has only seen one other script after the pilot but explained that the show will explore the lead characters more.

“We’re just going to start learning about them,” she said. “And learning about who they were and how they’re struggling with the new them versus the old them.”

NBC’s president Robert Greenblatt recently revealed that Up All Night‘s pilot will undergo reshootsto increase Rudolph’s on-screen presence.

The comedy will premiere on September 21 on NBC.

First Look at “Up All Night”

The Futon Critic offers a first look at the NBC show Up All Night.

Summary: While Applegate and Arnett are usually funny, this is not the recipe for a half-hour of laughs.  Comedic afterthoughts at best, awkward bumps at worst.

Christina Applegate and Will Arnett in NBC’s ‘Up All Night’

Christina Applegate and Will Arnett star in what looks like one of the more promising new comedies for the 2011-12 TV season, NBC’s“Up All Night.”

They play a couple who’s been married for seven years and have just had their first child, which they quickly discover puts a major dent in their previous, not-quite-grown-up lifestyle. Maya Rudolph also stars.

Applegate, who’s doing her first series since “Samantha Who?,” is a new mom herself, having given birth to daughter Sadie in late January. Arnett also has two young children, so we’re guessing they can relate to their roles pretty well.

The series will air at 8 p.m. ET Wednesdays in the fall.
